Thurmond Knight
Maker of Violins, Violas and 'Cellos

Models of instruments available:

Copy of Fritz Kreisler's 1733 Guarneri del Gesu' made by Thurmond in 1998. LutherBack72RES.JPG (6896 bytes) For my violin models, I turn to Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesu. I am particularly fond of Fritz Kreisler's 1733 del Gesu, and most of my violins are based on it. I also admire Carlo Bergonzi and Peter Guarneri and have used their designs from time to time.

Violas vary tremendously according to the needs and desires of the player. I find that I rely most often on models based on instruments made by Giovanni Paolo Maggini, as well as those of his teacher, Gasparo da Salo'. I have also made a number of violas based on those of Andreas Guarneri.

The cello pictured here is a Strad model, made in 1997.

For my cellos I have designed my own model which I find produces exceptional projection and depth of sound. I also make cellos based on instruments made by Stradivarius and Montagnana.
